Established in 1986 at the birth of the UK gate automation industry, Gate Doctors brings nearly 40 years of specialist expertise. In the early years, experienced automation engineers did not exist, so we trained and developed our own skilled team from the ground up.
Our founder trained on the first UK course delivered by FAAC UK, beginning a long-standing relationship with FAAC that continues today.
Over four decades, automation technologies have evolved many times, but our core principles remain unchanged: robust design, expert installation, strict safety compliance and first-class ongoing support.
The company remains founder-owned together with Director Sam Holter.
We have 6 qualified and DHF certified engineers, all strategically positioned across the South East and London. All of them are experts at finding and resolving faults, and have years experience – meaning they often understand the problem and it’s causes and can resolve it quickly.
On visiting your site they make a professional plan to clear the automation fault. The engineer will be able to test all the controllers and motors, then clearly explain to you what the plan is.

Our vehicles are also digitally tracked and our engineers have PDA’s allowing for accurate billing and time tracking.
We have been specialising in repairing and upgrading automated electric gates for over 30 years, which means we’ve likely see your problem before, so can diagnose and resolve it quickly.

To support the busy engineers we have 3 full time Service staff within our office. Providing support at all levels, from administration and call handling to quick response and attendance, managed by our Operations Manager.
They’ll be able to help assist you with your problems, and with 30 years of experience it’s likely we will have seen it before and have the solution.

Both are on hand to talk you through your issue and diagnose faults so our qualified engineers arrive with a good sense of the problem and how best to resolve it.
After a career in the Army, I was ready to take on a new challenge and apply the engineering skills I had developed during my service. In 2016, a friend and former colleague recommended me for a role at Gatedoctors and it turned out to be the perfect fit.
I started as an Automation Engineer, learning from a talented team, many of whom are still with the company today. Over time, I took on more responsibility, becoming increasingly customer-facing and contributing to the smooth running of the business.
By 2018, I had transitioned into a full-time office role as Technical Advisor, working closely with the Managing Director to reshape the business. We focused on reactive repairs and regular maintenance for our customers, and even managed a complex relocation to new premises, completed ahead of schedule thanks to the incredible teamwork here.
In 2020, during the pandemic, I stepped into my current role, sharing leadership responsibility and helping guide the company through uncertain times. I’m proud that we came through it with our team and services intact, and emerged stronger than ever.
Today, Gatedoctors continues to grow and thrive, delivering reliable, high-quality service to our customers while navigating a challenging economy. The fast-paced, varied challenges of this role have made it a truly rewarding experience, and I look forward to contributing to Gatedoctors’ success for many years to come.
I joined Gatedoctors in December 2024 and am the first point of contact for our customers. I greet everyone with a friendly, positive approach and understand how frustrating gate issues can be. I work hard to ensure we are as proactive as possible in resolving any problems quickly and efficiently.
Behind the scenes, I have been focused on improving our back-office processes to help deliver a smooth and seamless customer experience. During my first year, I have learned a great deal about the inner workings of gate systems, which I have found both interesting and rewarding. I enjoy being able to make positive changes to processes that benefit both our customers and the wider team.
Since our inception in 1986, Faac has been our trusted partner and the backbone of every major installation we’ve completed. From the very beginning, our Managing Director attended Faac’s first-ever training course that summer, setting the stage for a partnership built on trust, expertise, and innovation.
Over the past four decades, our deep understanding of Faac technology has allowed us to design and tailor systems to meet the unique needs of our customers. Equally important, Faac’s ongoing support ensures that any issues or challenges are addressed swiftly and efficiently, allowing us to deliver consistent, high-quality service every time.
Our relationship with Faac has been more than just supplier and client—it has been a collaboration that has grown and evolved alongside the industry itself. As we celebrate 40 years, we are proud to continue relying on Faac’s innovative solutions to provide the best possible outcomes for our customers. Here’s to the next 40 years of partnership, innovation, and success.
